McKINNEY -HICKS – HARRIS – BOONE – I’m looking for information on John McKINNEY from Mt. Airy, North Carolina, he removed from there to Scott County, Lee County, and Washington County, Virginia. In 1782 it was known as Washington, then became Lee, and finally was Scott County, Virginia. I am looking into this family for I am related to them, my Great Great Grandmother was Sally McKINNEY, and she married Caleb HICKS in 1845. Sally was born about 1820, so my guess is that she was the daughter of John McKINNEY Sr. and his son was her father John McKINNEY Jr. who was married to Nancy (Anne) HARRIS. I don’t know who his wife (Sr.’s) was but Daniel BOONE wrote him a letter which he called him Brother and Sister, I don’t know if that would mean his wife was a Boone or if they were just close friends. John Sr. went to Washington County, Virginia at the behest of Daniel BOONE, and Daniel wrote a letter saying he would take $60 for his share in some land in Washington county, Virginia, that is when he called John Sr. and his wife Brother and Sister. ALLEN -PETTIT – I am looking for ancestors of Isaac ALLEN, my g-g-g-g-grandfather. Everything I have read or found otherwise indicates that Isaac & family were too busy trying to farm & stay alive to write much of anything down. The rest of his siblings were listed as born in Scott Co., Va. I have found tax records & deeds from Surry Co., showing a John ALLEN Sr. deeding land to John Jr, William & Isaac. DICK – HEATH – Seeking more information on Thomas Heath DICK, born in Guilford Co. ca. 1787, moved to Surry Co. in the 1840s and died there in March 1870. His son Thomas Morrison DICK and daughters Mary, Rebecca, and Nancy stayed in Surry Co. His oldest son James Hall DICK married in Guilford and remained there. I would also like to know more about the descendants of the younger children. Some have assumed this man belonged to the local DICKS/DIX family, but he did not. I am also wondering if there is a possible link between him and the HEATH family of Surry/Stokes Co. Does anyone have a record of a marriage between the DICK and HEATH families, possibly involving an Ann HEATH? I would greatly appreciate any help.

BULLINGTON – TURPIN -SMITH -McDANIEL – BRANSON – After a great deal of help I have found William Preston BULLINGTON b. 1858 in Virginia d. Nov. 29, 1932, in Mooresville, Indiana. He married Elizabeth Ella TURPIN b. Oct. 16, 1863, Stokes Cty, NC. She died Sept. 15, 1903, in Mooresville, Indiana. William’s second wife was Minnie Mae SMITH, married Oct. 1, 1910. They had no children. William and Elizabeth (Bettie) had 6 children: Cora, George, Sarah (Sadie), Malley Mae, Mary Ellen and Ruth. Mary Ellen and Ruth were born in Indiana. Ruth was born Dec. 22, 1902 and died February 2, 1904. It is thought that Ruth’s birth lead to her mother’s (Elizabeth) death. My search now is for the parents of Jonathan Preston BULLINGTON b. Feb 25, 1826 in Pittsylvania County, VA. He married Frances McDANIEL. Some researchers lists his parents as Josiah and Maria Hobson BULLINGTON. I have come to believe that his parents were John Crenshaw BULLINGTON and Susanne (Susan) BRANSON. John and Susan are listed in the 1850 Pittsylvania County, VA Census with 9 of their children. The oldest child is listed as Josiah, age 22. Listed before them, on the census, is the McDANIEL family, with a daughter, Frances, age 21. Jonathan Preston BULLINGTON married Frances McDANIEL. Jonathan cannot be found on any census of 1850. I believe he was away from home when the census was taken. The fact that his future wife was living “next door” to his parents leads me to believe that he is, in fact, the son of John C and Susan BULLINGTON. I would appreciate any help with this line of thought. Also, I am trying to find the location of the BULLINGTON Family Cemetery. I understand that Jonathan Preston BULLINGTON and his wife, Frances, are buried there.

John was my grandfather’s brother. My grandfather’s name was James (Jim) Madison MIDKIFF who was born 4-12-1858 in Patrick Co., VA & died 7-28-1930 in Mercer Co., WV (Matoaka).
