Research Room

The Surry County Genealogical Association is a non-profit organization formed in 1981.
We want to create and foster an interest in genealogy, help people compile family history and share ideas that may aid in more accurate research.

The book & document collections of the SCGA are housed in the Carlos P. Surratt Genealogy Room in the Surry Community College Library. The collection now consists of more than 2,400 bound volumes.

The holdings of the Genealogy Room include family histories, state and local records, local and national newsletters, census records, maps, and many other materials of interest to those pursuing genealogy. Materials are available for several North Carolina counties as well as Virginia and Tennessee counties. Also available are state and national records.

Online Finding Aids are available for some genealogical and archival collections housed at the Surry Community College.
