SHEETS-NEACE – I am looking for information on my grandfather,Frederick SHEETS a few times removed. He was born in Dauphin Co. PA in 1781, migrated to Rowan Co. NC with parents (probably Martin & Margaret SHEETS) around 1790; apparently married about 1799 as he was in the 1800 census in Randolph Co. NC as head of household between the ages of 16 and 26 with one female bBetween 16 and 26; apparently moved to Surry County, NC around 1803 where land records show that he “Proved in Surry Co Court May Term 1803 land for Andrew SHEETS and in Aug 1804, purchased 125 acres of land on the north side of the Yadkin River from Andrew SHEETS for $600. By the time of the 1810 census, he was still in Surry County with one elderly female (45 +) which could not have been the female (probably wife) from the 1800 census in Randolph Co. I believe that his wife must have died with no children born to that marriage, and that this female was probably his widowed mother-in-law. By 1813, Frederick is in Lancaster Co. PA where he is married to Margaret NEACE and my Great, Great Grandfather, Benjamin is born on December 13, 1813. From there, records are rather complete. HOLLOWAY-SMITH-BROOKS – WOODRUFF -MURDOCK – BAUGUESS- WAGGONER – NALL – Levi Wm HOLLOWAY was my father, the son of Win. Eli HOLLOWAY & Mary Elizabeth SMITH, son of Daniel HOLLOWAY & Sarah JANE BROOKS; they came from Wilkes Co. NC ,to Alleghany Co., probably in the late 1880s, having lived near Sarah Jane’s parents, Young Nathan & Elizabeth (MURDOCK) BROOKS on or around Garden Creek and Widow’s Creek in Wilkes Co. Daniel’s f. John HOLLOWAY, b. ca 1823, Traphill & w. Elizabeth BAUGUESS and his f. Daniel HOLLOWAY & w. Mary “Polly” WOODRUFF lived in Ashe Co., NC where his will can be found. In 1859 Alleghany Co. was formed from Ashe, Wilkes and Surry so perhaps the Holloways didn’t move as much as it would indicate; perhaps county lines made the biggest difference in their residence, which by censuses was first Stephen in Surry Co., on Roarin R., then Wilkes, Roarin R., then Stephen disappears from the records before 1800, when his son John, b. 1766 & James both show on 1800 Census. But Stephen had in 1787 Cen. 1 m 21-60 (John b. 1766?) 4 m und 21 and ov 60 (himself, James and 2 others, WHO?) 3 f (his wife, unknown, dau Nancy, who m. Adam WAGGONER and Rebecca?, who m. Win. NALL, sheriff???) A Stephen & Robert HOLLOWAY were in KY by 1790, are they a possibility? On 24 Jul 1786 Stephen is exempt from taxes, meaning he is 50 yrs. old, so b. ca 1736; so he could have one or two sons older than John b. 1766, who could have gone to KY after that 1787 Cen. or one of those in KY. could have been Stephen the father because he was never seen nor heard of after he left Wilkes. Many of us working on these lines have thought that he went to Ashe Co. with son James b. 1770. Is there any chance that someone else is researching these lines and has proof, documentation or further info. Would love to communicate with them. Orella (Holloway) Chadwick

HODGES – COCKERHAM- GENTRY – This is a plea for information on HODGES of Surry Co., NC, formerly of VA. These HODGES started arriving in Surry Co. in 1770’s. There are so many in the next century that they are mind-boggling since they used the same names over and over. I am in the process of trying to line them up correctly and put them on the computer but badly need any documentation any of you have for various families. I have the wills of Bartholomew b. in VA around 1760, will 1826 (Is there documentation that his wife was Elizabeth COCKERHAM or COCHRAN?)and William, same age by censuses, is there documentation that his wife was Tabitha GENTRY?) and Edmund, wife Sarah, about the same time period, a John and James in those early records. Was Welcome William HODGES a f. of these boys? Would like Estate Settlements for Welcome William, Bartholomew, William John, Asa or Amasa and Edmond. An Estate Settlement documents who received what from the Estate and while it isn’t conclusive proof of every child )some may already be dec’d, it certainly identifies at least a part of them. If you would like to help with this “feat” and/or have any info., or would like your lineage included, it would certainly be appreciated.!
