TUCKERS – GALASPYS/GILLISPIES – RABUN – BAILEY – BRITTON – Seeking information on: I have 2 branches of ancestors in Surry County: TUCKERS and GALASPYS/GILLISPIES. I believe theGILLLISPIES migrated to Surry County from Mecklenburg County,Virginia in the 1770’s and the TUCKERS migrated from Mecklenburg about 1783? My 3rd great-grandfather was Archibald/Arch/Archer
TUCKER. Archibald married Patsy GALASPY/GILLISPIE, daughter of Elijah and Mary RABUN GALASPY/GILLISPIE. Archibald and Patsy moved to Hawkins County, Tn – maybe 1811? Archibald and Patsy were the parents of 6 sons : Williamson , Alden , Abijah , Alexander Clay, Archibald and James. Alden was my great-great-grandfather and he married Elizabeth (Betsy) BAILEY. Alden and Betsy lived in Hawkins County until about 1842 and moved to Murray (now Whitfield) County, Georgia. Archibald was drafted into the East Tennessee Militia on November 13, 1814 and died December 28, 1814. Patsy and the sons continued to live in Hawkins County and Patsy later married Abraham BRITTON. My best guess at this time Archibald was the son of Gardner/Garner TUCKER who was the son of James TUCKER, Jr. There is quite a bit of information on the GILLESPIES. I have copies of the old pages of Elijah’s bible which has been handed down through the family. I believe Elijah and Mary are buried at the old Fisher River Primitive Baptist Church but did not find them listed in the Cemetery books?
